On the day Jerry died, I like others I'm sure, had a strange experience. I was watching a cartoon called "bobby's World" (Howwie Mandel) in the morning and the episode was about Bobby learning his shapes and colors. He received help from an old crossing guard. He had white hair and a white beard and was chubby. He taught Bobby to listen to the music everywhere. In the wind in the trees, the honking of the horns of the cars, the dogs barking, etc. Later in the episode the old crossing guard died, but Bobby never forgot the lessons taught to him.

Right after the episode finished, I got the call from a friend that Jerry had passed on. Just seemed like an odd coincidence to me. Spooky.

What was everyone else doing when they heard?

THANK YOU JER!

funny you should say this because I have a weird one too. First of all I was driving to work and the radio was playing blocks of the band and the songs weren't touch of gray, trucking, etc. so I had a pretty good feeling right away.

When I got home that night what was in the mail? I had ordered a long out of print copy of Dead Ahead on Laser Disc ( yeah that's right, they were still around then )and it just happened to show up that very day.

I also had an experience when I saw PLF in (2002) Austin, TX. We were leaving for the show, turned the radio on and they were playing FOTD. PLF opened with FOTD.

Truly cosmic.

How many times have you been driving and playing "Looks Like Rain" and it started raining?

I don' t like much the noises in europe these days . besides it is totally baren about hearing G.D music on their boring tvs and radios here. as for deadheads the only one i saw here was me and i!

I was involved with the online community The Well and heard about it there. Got lots of email from friends wondering if I was okay. I was, partly because Jerry's death was not entirely unexpected. I'd really started thinking Jerry wasn't long for this world after the arrest in '85 (preceded by several years of worsening physical appearance). Then there was the coma in '86. I'd hoped he'd turned a corner in '87, but the health issues in '92 were a reminder that by then self-neglect was an established habit. To an outsider, Jerry's declining abilities in the last year of his life really looked like some sort of terminal decline. So sad. I still miss Jerry and that whole crazy chunk of my life which now seems so long ago.

WOW! Thanks. I remembered a beard, but I think it was the early morning activities at the time. It was basically like I remembered though. Thanks for the memories!

I was on a bus from Virginia to Pennsylvania and heard about it on the radio at a rest area. RIP Jerry.

i heard about jerry when he died .even the beckwards tv geeks here had to mention it not even having a clue why it shook up the whole world .from that day on i thought there will be no more contacts with deadheads .that the music was over because it was jery's guitare that called to the grateful dead inthe first place .if i ever foud my paradise among the skies again, then i'd like going to nearby the G.D.band every week-end !!with my Vishnu 4 arms outlook ,a most hansome out of the world type of guy!
